Dindigul / Palani / Coimbatore – June 13, 2025 — A name synonymous with creativity, passion, and perseverance, Mr. A. Suriya, born on 14th December 1982 in the lush green hills of Valparai, has emerged as a dynamic force in the field of art, record-setting, and social awareness through creativity. With humble beginnings and unyielding determination, his journey from a passionate art student to a celebrated world record holder and founder of a national-level organization is nothing short of inspirational.
A Brush with Destiny: The Artist’s Journey
In 2001, Suriya’s artistic journey took root in Coimbatore, where he began exploring the depths of visual expression. Fuelled by an early desire to make a mark, he completed his Art Teacher Training Course in 2007, which became the turning point that sparked his mission to make art a tool for impact and transformation.
Through his work as an Art Teacher beginning in 2012, Suriya discovered the hidden artistic gems among schoolchildren and made it his life’s mission to nurture and showcase these talents.
Lights, Camera, Awareness: “Aadathey”
In the same year, Suriya ventured into filmmaking with the short film “Aadathey”, centered on the vital theme of human organ donation. Not only did he direct the film, but he also wrote the lyrics for its soul-stirring song. This project was a gateway to deeper creative experiments and social messaging.
Breaking Records with Paper Cups: A Symbol of Unity
The turning point came on 31st December 2013, when Mr. Suriya used 2013 paper tea cups to create a monumental artwork titled “My Nation’s Unity” at Palani, Tamil Nadu. Over 5 hours, using 140 litres of water and vibrant watercolors, he created a symbolic and inclusive artwork that represented India’s diverse religious and cultural harmony:
- 0 symbolized a Mosque – Islam
- 1 symbolized the Cross – Christianity
- 2 illustrated the Indian National Flag – Unity in Diversity
- 3 represented OM – Hinduism
This ingenious tribute to India’s unity was widely recognized and documented by the India Book of Records, Tamil Nadu Book of Records, Asia Book of Records, and several others. In a gesture of recognition, the World Achievement University (UK) awarded Mr. Suriya an Honorary Doctorate for this unique contribution.
From Record Setter to Community Leader
Following his paper cup achievement, Suriya was appointed as the District Organizer for the Tamil Nadu Book of Records in Dindigul, where he began promoting record-breaking talent across educational institutions.
In 2015, he coordinated 40 achievement events for the Chennai Avadi World Records, with exhibitions showcased both at Avadi and Palani.
During this time, he completed a Radio Jockey (RJ) Course and expanded his outreach through media and communication.
The Birth of a Movement – DCBWR
On 10th October 2015, in Rameswaram, the sacred birthplace of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Suriya launched the DCBWR (Dr. Kalam’s Birthplace World Records) to inspire youth, promote national unity, and recognize unheard talents.
DCBWR quickly evolved into a platform of social awakening, with achievements celebrated across Madurai, Chennai, and Kanchipuram. His unique ability to blend art, education, and social service led to his appointment as:
- Chairperson of URF (2016)
- Secretary, Dindigul District of Worldwide Journal Multipress Association (2017)
He was also invited to contribute to the esteemed Sunami Sudar magazine and briefly worked with AET News, showcasing his storytelling and media skills.
World Record Researcher: 5000 and Counting
Between March 2017 to May 2018, Mr. Suriya undertook an extraordinary feat: researching and documenting over 5000 achievements related to world records. His meticulous work is archived through DCBWR, preserving the legacy of achievers and uplifting countless dreamers who lacked exposure.
Today, he continues to mentor and promote talented individuals from all walks of life. His future plans include launching:
- A set of rules and regulations for World Achievements
- Special achievement shows
- Books and publications on achievers
- A digital museum of newspaper clippings documenting exceptional feats
A Journey Without Funding, But Full of Faith
Despite these immense contributions, Mr. Suriya emphasizes that his journey has been entirely self-driven, without any financial support from organizations or sponsors. His strength has come from his social media well-wishers, supportive parents, and close friends who believed in his mission.
“Everything I’ve achieved is because of my faith, creativity, and the people who stood by me when I had nothing but an idea,” says Mr. Suriya with heartfelt gratitude.
